I am making decent money, and was, at the time, driving a really high mileage 1998 explorer that got terrible MPG and was nickle and dimeing me to death, so I decided to go look for a new car. It had really high safety ratings, the car itself was in very good condition (the previous owner was a little old lady who I actually got to meet because her nephew was the car salesman I bought it from, who even brought me all of the paperwork on the maintenance she had - impeccable maintenance record I might add), and the average highway mpg, is double that of my explorer. However, I made a mistake of not confirming what my insurance rate would change to when I called State Farm over the phone to have my coverage changed to the new vehicle, and now here I am paying triple what I did for the explorer. I don't get it, how does a little 4 door sedan w/ awesome safety ratings and all that jazz cost me $224 a month to insure, but a 4WD fully loaded explorer, in Colorado, that I had since I was 17, was only like $63 a month. I mean, I understand that a vehicle that isn't paid off yet is going to have higher insurance thanks to the lender requiring full coverage, but I don't know ANYONE around my age paying this much except for a guy I work with who drives an Acura and got a massive ticket for going a buck 20 in a 45 speed zone and now pays like 350 a month. Is there something particular about this car that I wasn't aware of? It's a great car, but the huge insurance cost is really hurting what I'd planned to be able to afford per month on top of my other bills.

Can I sue my auto insurance company for an at fault accident with an insured driver on my policy?

I was a passenger in my own vehicle during a near fatal accident where the driver, who is an insured driver on my policy, had road rage with another driver. The driver ended up receiving a DUI as a result of the accident. I tried to sue my auto insurance company for under/unisured motorist, but since the accident was a sole vehicle accident, the insurance company would not settle for my injuries. Due to the nature of the accident and the result of the driver being intoxicated, the auto insurance company accepted liability for the driver's negligence and tried to settle for $4,200. I ended up hiring a lawyer because I have an unpaid hospital bill in excess of the settlement amount. In addition, I have had complications from my injuries and need lifetime treatments. We have an arbitration hearing next month, but the driver is only named on the lawsuit, not my auto insurance company. This accident happened in Pennsylvania and I had full tort, stackable, 100,000/300,000. My question is...why is the insurance company not insuring the named insured driver (who by the way happens to be my husband), on my insurance policy?

Okay, my mother bet me a 5 thousand dollar car that she is right about this. Here we go. I am 27 and live back at home with parents. However, I rent a room that i pay for every month, and they write me a rent receipt, etc. I recieve county assistance every month, and they have me documented as a seperate family from my parents, meals prepared seperately, the whole nine yards. So, if they are just my landlords technically, and if i drive a car that is registered to me, my name on title, my OWN insurance policy, and I get into a accident in MY car, can they other party sue my parents for damages? Remember I am 28 years old, living in a seperate household from them. I feel that they cannot sue them cuz they couldnt sue my landlord if i lived in an apartment complex, so how coyuld they sue my landlords?

Why do people in the US waste money on car insurance?

There are 5 states such as California where 25% of the public has NO car insurance...while the rest of the country has an average of 7% uninsured. Obviously no one is enforcing insurance so...why bother getting insurance at all. Isn't it cheaper to have none..and more un-American to have it? After all, Americans generally think they should not have to pay for anything, so why pay for anything at all?
